Write in Italy! / Scrivere in Italia!
After our successful October, 2008
Writing Workshop in Bolsena, Italy,
we returned for another wonderful nine-day event.
May 21-30, 2010
Writeups of this event coming soon!
(See below for our 2011 Turkish Writing Delight)
Italian Itinerary:
May 21 - arrival in the lovely town of Bolsena, north of Rome. Located at the juncture of Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany, Bolsena is full of ancient ruins, winding narrow streets, and cool breezes off Lago Bolsena, the largest volcanic lake in the area. It lies on the pilgrim's trail and is the site of real life miracle. The basilica is across the street from our home base.
In the nine-day event we visited Vetralla, Montepulciano, Montefiascone, the coast of the Mediterannean, Deruta, Viterbo/Bomarzo, Rome, Civita & Lubriano, and heard wonderful talks and participated in writing exercises with travel writer Tristan Rutherford, novelist Sandra Petrignani, history writer Mary Jane Cryan, and Teresa Cutler-Broyles. We participated in a cooking lesson with reknown chef Fulvio and ate our meal on a terrace overlooking the Tuscan countryside.
And what's a lake-side writing workshop without a sail on the lovely Lago Bolsena with Stefano - we spent a morning doing just that.
Time was set aside for writing on the terrace, by the lake, or in the cafes, and everyone had a wonderful time.

Turkish Writing Delight!
Our writing workshop & retreat in exotic and exciting Turkey
October, 2011
Sign up soon to reserve your place!
Itinerary:
We will start in Istanbul, ancient Constantinople in the heart of Sultanahmet where we'll visit the Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia, the cisterns, and Arasta Bazaar. We'll visit with Turkish writers and have two evenings of workshops/writing, and determine a potential project to focus on for the next ten days.
On to Ankara, Turkey's capital city and the incredible Hittite museum. In Ankara, Turkish writers will share their knowledge and we will participate in two workshops.
Then we'll visit Cappadocia, an underground city from 10,000 years ago, formed by the wind blowing over and through stones for centuries. We will spend a day writing in the valleys, and enjoy music in the caves.
We will move on to Konya and Rumi's tomb. We expect it to inspire us as it has inspired mystics, poets, and writers for hundreds of years.
Next is Afrodisias, the City of Aphrodite, the original goddess of love; here we will write near the ancient temple, awash in the sunlight and magic of the place.
On to Ephesus, an ancient port city during Classical Greece and today one of the most impressive ancient cities in existence in the world. We will write among the ruins.
Back to Istanbul for one last day and night.
